The data point to the existence of annual cycles in production, slaughterings and prices, but four-year cycles are only evident in pig prices. | Resumo É estudada a incidência da sífilis em gestantes, na cidade de Manaus. Das pacientes que deram entrada, pela primeira vez, no serviço de Prenatal da Maternidade Escola "Ana Nery", durante o ano de 1975, 447 delas foram escolhidas ao acaso para fazerem parte do trabalho. Foram realizados três testes sorológicos, a saber: a) Venereal Diseases Research Laboratory (VDRL); b) Fixação do Complemento (Wassermann), e c) Imunofluorescência Indireta. 10,06% dos soros foram reagentes, pelo menos a um dos testes realizados. Notou-se ainda que a maioria das pacientes encontrava-se na primeira gestação (36,69%), estavam na faixa de 17 a 25 anos de idade (61,74%) e procuraram os serviços médicos no quinto mês da gravidez (17,44%). |

| Several farm sector econometric models are reviewed initially and the aggregation problem highlighted. A thirty-equation model of the Australian agricultural sector is specified in which farm output, stocks and exports and the domestic demand for farm products are endogenous, as well as farm, export and retail prices. Disaggregation is into food and non-food components of unprocessed output, and the processing of food is traced through to final demand. The model is estimated by a modified 2SLS procedure using quarterly data covering the period 1960-1970. |

| A sponge collection dredged by Dr. P. WAGENAAR HUMMELINCK in the vicinity of Barbados (West Indies) contained a Cinachyralike specimen bearing large and conspicuous acanthoxea. This find induced the present author to re-examine all specimens with similar spiculation reported so far. A review of the literature revealed that a total of three such specimens has been described in two different genera, all as separate species, viz. Acanthotetilla hemisphaerica Burton, 1959, Acanthocinachyra enigmatica Levi, 1964, and Acanthocinachyra seychellensis Thomas, 1973. Both genera are reported to differ in the presence (genus Acanthocinachyra) or absence (genus Acanthotetilla) of sigmaspire microscleres. | A sirenian skeleton, the major part of which was excavated from Miocene deposits at Eibergen near Winterswijk, belongs to Metaxytherium. The temporal crests on the parietals are well separated. The foramen magnum is pointed above. The mandible has a downturned symphysial body with four shallow alveoli on each side. The wide mandibular canal opens some distance behind the alveolus of M3. There are alveoli for one premolar (P4) and for three molars (M1-M3). Only M2 dext. is preserved; it has four main cusps and some accessory cusplets. | Recognizing the lack of realism in optimal replacement analyses that assume constant prices and yield patterns over time, a stochastic model appropriate to rubber production is developed. Data drawn from Peninsular Malaysia are used to implement the model. The results suggest that efforts should be directed towards establishing bench mark maximum annuities as guides to more economic replanting decisions rather than emphasizing earlier replanting per se. The significance of price stabilization policies also becomes evident. |
